Day 6: An art song that makes you want to dance
Although I have already chosen a selection from Peter Lieberson's Neruda Songs, this fourth piece from the cycle "Ya eres mía" is the ultimate song that makes me want to dance - especially when I get to sing it with orchestra! This recording is from 2015 when Jordan Thomas, harpist, Michael Repper, conductor, and I organized what we called the "Latin American Anniversary Concert" to perform the 10th anniversary of the first performance of the Neruda Songs and the 50th anniver

Day 5: An art song with an animal in the title
"The Giraffes go to Hamburg" is one of my put away for the near future/cannot wait to sing pieces. We learned about this in Dr. Muckenfuss's British & American Song class at Peabody during my masters a few years ago and I've been secretly looking for a way to perform it. This is the best part about Modern Singer Magazine's 30 Day Art Song Challenge - rediscovering those pieces I had hidden away for a future time. The recording below is of Renée Fleming singing André Previn's

Day 4: An art song with poetry by your favorite poet
Another throwback to 2015 for this entry! This time to the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition performing Peter Lieberson's "Amor, amor las nubes a la torre del cielo" with pianist Hadley McCarroll. This piece is a part of the overwhelmingly beautiful Neruda Songs which are settings of poetry by the inimitable Pablo Neruda! #30dayartsongchallenge #artsong #PabloNeruda #PeterLieberson #NerudaSongs #Spanish

Day 3: Something that reminds you of summer
And how this challenge only reminds us that it's slipping through our fingers! This is a piece recorded in April of 2016 at a Baltimore Musicales event with Patricia Amato at the piano and is one of my favorite discoveries from preparations for the Boulanger Competition the preceding Fall: Nadia Boulanger's "Roses de juin" from her song cycle Les heures claires. Day 2: An art song with a number in the title
Day two brings about a throwback to my Masters Recital at Peabody in April of 2015! A selection from Mahler's heart-wrenching "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen": "Die zwei blauen Augen von meinem Schatz" again with the incomparable John Henderson at the piano! Day 1: An art song with a color in the title
Entry number one is a return to April 28, 2017 in our recital As Caged Birds at the Baltimore War Memorial. This selection is "White Eggs in the Bush" from Judith Weir's "The Voice of Desire" with pianist John Henderson. Recorded by Arts Laureate. The 30 Day Art Song Challenge
Starting on September 1st, Modern Singer Magazine kicked off their 30 Day Art Song Challenge. As a self professed "Art Song Nerd," I was immediately drawn in! On top of it being a fantastic way to explore repertoire, it is also a great way for me to share recordings from the past few years that I have not yet had the opportunity to publish. I will be using this challenge to share old recordings with you all and I will also be using it to research new repertoire for future rec

Welcome to the new website!
A new audition season means a new website, new recordings, updated resumes, biographies, repertoire lists, headshots, and publicity photos...This is a season of updates and change for all singers! This specific season brings a big change to my own materials: the loss of the two syllables "mezzo" before that well-known word "soprano." Nothing about the essence of my voice has changed; I have simply decided to follow a new path into different repertoire! I am looking forward to
